Cougars Fall to Elon in Final Home CAA Game

MT. PLEASANT, S.C. – Elon scored a pair of goals in the second half to hand College of Charleston a 2-0 defeat on Senior Day at Ralph Lundy Field.
The loss leaves the Cougars in a tie for sixth with the Phoenix in the CAA and in need of a win or tie in the regular season finale next Saturday at Delaware to keep their postseason hopes alive.
Charleston (5-5-5, 2-3-2 CAA) controlled play in the first half, taking five shots while limiting the Phoenix (3-8-3, 2-3-2) to only two. But the Elon attack picked up after intermission with 10 shots over that span including goals in the 60th and 63rd minutes.
Peter Thomas had six of the Cougars' 11 shots with four on target. Charleston also finished with nine corner kicks but was unable to capitalize on its opportunities in seeing its three-game winning streak come to an end.
The Cougars host Winthrop in their home finale on Tuesday at 6 p.m. before the critical game against the Blue Hens.
