CHARLESTON, S.C. – College of Charleston plays at Delaware on Saturday at 2 p.m. looking for a win or tie before taking on the role of scoreboard watchers as the Cougars hope to earn a berth in next week's CAA Tournament.
Charleston's fate will be determined not only by its result against the Blue Hens but also the Campbell at Monmouth and UNCW at Elon games. The Cougars enter the final day of the regular season with eight points, tied with Campbell and Elon for sixth place with the top six teams advancing to the postseason.
The trio is one point behind Delaware as six teams vie for the final two available spots. The tournament begins on November 2 at the home of the top two seeds. The Cougars are seeking their first trip to the postseason since 2017.
Charleston has won four of its last five games but dropped a 2-0 decision to Elon last Saturday in its most recent CAA contest. The Cougars rebounded for a 2-0 win over Winthrop in their home finale on Tuesday behind a goal and assist from Leonardo D'Ambrosio.
D'Ambrosio is tied for third in the CAA with eight assists and is fifth with 18 points. Peter Thomas is tied for fifth in the conference along with Delaware's Carlos Fernandez with seven goals.
The Blue Hens own a 5-2-3 lead in the all-time series including 3-1 at home. Delaware won, 2-0, last year at Ralph Lundy Field.
