Men's Basketball Travels to Kent State

KENT, Ohio – The College of Charleston men's basketball team returns to action on Sunday at Kent State to take on the Golden Flashes. Action is set for 5:30 p.m.

STORYLINES
  • The College of Charleston men's basketball team makes its return trip to Kent State on November 26 for fourth all-time meeting between the Cougars and Golden Flashes. Charleston currently holds the 3-1 series edge.
  • The Cougars won an exciting 74-72 battle last season at TD Arena when Jaylon Scott hit a three with less than 30 seconds remaining to secure the win. Ryan Larson led the Cougars with 16 points in the contest. Ante Brzovic led this year's returners with nine points and two rebounds.
  • Kent State was picked to finish second in the Mid-American Conference Preseason Coaches' Poll behind Akron. Grad student Chris Payton was nominated to the preseason All-MAC First Team.
  • The Golden Flashes are the third 2023 NCAA March Madness team the Cougars have faced this season (Iona, Vermont). They will play a fourth on December 2 at Florida Atlantic.
  • Charleston is coming off of a 80-72 win over Coastal Carolina at the Myrtle Beach Invitational on November 19. The Cougars sank 17 triples, tied for the third most in a single game in history. Reyne Smith dropped 24 points with six threes for the most points scored by a Cougar this season.
  • The Cougars offensive rebounding has highlighted their play so far this season, ranking 44th nationally in the category with 14.40 per game. Charleston grabbed 23 in a loss to Wyoming in Myrtle Beach, the most since February 17, 2022, at James Madison.
  • Pat Kelsey earned his 50th win with Cougars vs. Coastal Carolina.
SCOUTING THE GOLDEN FLASHES
  • The Kent State Men's basketball team wrapped up their 2022-23 season with an overall record of28-7 including a MAC Tournament win and an NCAA appearance.
  • The Flashes were defeated by JMU in a thrilling double OT game on Nov. 9, 113-108 ending their 23-home game winning streak.
  • Kent State is coming off two wins in the Paradise Jam Tournament. The Flashes placed third overall after defeating both Hampton and Fordham.
  • Chris Payton Jr. earned himself a spot on the Paradise Jam All-Tournament team averaging 16.3 points per game and seven rebounds. He leads the Flashes in points, rebounds, and blocks.
  • Reggie Bass and Jalen Sullinger have also been key components of the Flashes' offense, both averaging double-digits in points per game.
