CHARLESTON, S.C. – Charleston continues its 12-game homestand to open the 2023 season with an old foe in Coastal Carolina at Patriots Point. The Cougars and Chanticleers renew an old series with the 52nd meeting Tuesday afternoon, the first of two meetings in the 2023 season.

The Cougars come into Tuesday's meeting fresh off a series win over UMBC posting 20 runs over the final two contests.
Will Baumhofer led the Cougars with a .700 average scoring four times and collecting back-to-back three-hit days.

Coastal Carolina leaves Conway for the first time in 2023 as they're off to a 4-3 start going 2-1 both of the first two weekends and dropping their lone midweek contest to nationally-ranked NC State.

Coastal Carolina took both meetings last season and have regained a slight edge 26-25 in the all-time series. Of the 25 wins in the series, 16 have come at home for the Cougars.

Coastal Carolina is the first of three opponents from the Sun Belt on Charleston's 2023 schedule with Appalachian State and Georgia Southern. Charleston is 95-76 against the Chanticleers, Mountaineers and Eagles all-time collecting 25-plus wins against all three.

Tuesday also marks the first of five opponents that call South Carolina home on Charleston's regular season slate. The Cougars also take on Charleston Southern, Clemson, The Citadel and Wofford.

Scouting the Chanticleers
- Coastal Carolina enters Tuesday off a 2-1 weekend series against Creighton and 4-3 overall. The Chanticleers have posted at least 11 runs in all four wins reaching the 14-run mark in three of those.
- Seven of the nine qualifying hitters for the Chanticleers are batting at least .300 through two weekends of baseball led by Payton Eeles' .440 mark and perfect 5-for-5 in steal attempts. A s team the Chanticleers are batting .331 to their opponents' .280 mark.
- On the mound, Coastal Carolina has a 6.43 Team ERA and has surrendered 14 home runs. Bryce Shaffer leads the staff 2with a 3.38 ERA and 1-0 record across three appearances.
