
Pole Vaulters Highlight First Day of South Carolina Invitational

COLUMBIA, S.C. – The College of Charleston pole vaulters highlighted the track and field team's showing on the first day of the South Carolina Invitational on Friday.
Luzy Lieger led the way by breaking her own school record in the event, clearing the bar at 12'9 ½" to finish fourth in the invite section of the pole vault. Tonet Tallie moved up one spot to third in Cougar history with a mark of 11'9 ¾" while Ruby Hansen rose two positions to eighth with a top jump of 10'2".
Tallie also made an impressive debut in the 60 hurdles with her time of 9.42 placing her eighth in the record book. Emily Kreek topped Charleston in the event with a time of 9.25, lowering her PR by .19 seconds and moving her up one spot to sixth.
Kreek also entered the record book in the long jump in ninth place at 17'4 ¼", and Avery Jackson had a PR of 17'0". Rhian Purves also altered the record book in the mile, crossing the finish line in 5:00.66 to climb from fifth to third while taking 11th place in a field of 75 runners.
Shannon Smith joined Purves with a PR in the mile (5:15.73) and finished in 25th place. Kaitlynn Bailey matched her career best in the 60 with a time of 7.92, the third-fastest time in school history.
The meet concludes on Saturday with Cougars competing in the 200, 800, 5000, 4x400 relay and high jump.
