Cougar Athletes Seek All-Conference Honors at CAA Outdoor Championships

Charleston, S.C. – Twenty College of Charleston athletes will compete in 12 events at the CAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships beginning Friday at Zable Stadium in Williamsburg, Va.
Luzy Lieger will look to add to her indoor title in the pole vault and enters the meet as the top seed. She is the only conference athlete to clear four meters this season with a school-record vault of 4.20m (13 feet, 9 ¼") and is tied for 10th in the East Region and tied for 23rd nationally.
Lieger has earned all-conference outdoor honors the past two seasons, finishing second in 2021 and third a year ago.
Rhian Purves is ranked seventh in the CAA in the 1500 (4:28.41) and 10th in the 800 (2:13.37) and is third in school history in both. She will also be running the 5000 this week. Kaitlynn Bailey is scheduled to compete in three events and is in the top 10 in school history in each, including the school record in the 100 (12.04) and sixth in the 400 (57.46) and seventh in the 200 (25.28).
Abby Fush joins Purves in the top 20 in the conference in two events. The freshman stands 15th in the triple jump (11.02m; 36 feet, 2 inches – eighth school history) and 19th in the long jump (5.42m; 17 feet, 9 ½ inches – seventh school history).
Fellow freshman Emma Fortuna ranks 18th in the CAA and 10th in the Cougar record book with a mark of 1.58m (5 feet, 2 ¼ inches) in the high jump.
Emily Dorony is sixth in school history in the 800 (2:16.07) and ninth in the 1500 (4:43.22) and will run in both events this week. Emily Kreek was eighth in the pentathlon at the CAA Indoor Championships and will compete in the heptathlon at the outdoor meet.
