WILLIAMSBURG, Va. -
Rhian Purves earned All-CAA honors for the first time in her career when she raced to a third-place finish in the 1500 at the conference meet Saturday in Williamsburg.
Purves posted a time of 4:37.65, finishing just 1.05 seconds off the lead, and giving Charleston six points in the team standings. Later in the day she added another point when she placed eighth in the 800 with a time of 2:17.20.
Purves is the first Cougar to earn a spot on the All-CAA team in a running event since Tess Masselink took third in the steeplechase in 2018.
Emily Kreek contributed three points when she placed sixth in the heptathlon with 4,280 points, the fourth-highest total in school history. She had a pair of PRs with marks of 5.30m (17 feet, 4 ¾ inches) in the long jump and 23.14m (75 feet, 11 inches) in the javelin.
Her long jump left her just .05 meters away from cracking the top 10 in Cougar history.
The 5000 duo of
Cayden Crismon and
Sophia Brown both had outstanding races and altered the school record book. Crismon moved up from ninth to fifth with a time of 17:39.04, slicing almost 16 seconds off her previous PR. Brown lowered her PR by a whopping 41 seconds, crossing in 17:42.48 to take over the No. 7 spot in school annals.
Rounding out the Cougar competitors on the final day of the meet were
Abby Fush, who went 10.81m (35 feet, 5 ¾ inches) in the triple jump, and
Emma Fortuna, who cleared 1.50m (4 feet, 11 inches) in the high jump.
