Nassetta and Antonio Score First Career Goals in 2-2 Draw with USC Upstate

Mt. Pleasant, S.C.Avery Nassetta and Bella Antonio each scored their first career goals in the College of Charleston women's soccer 2-2 draw against USC Upstate on Thursday night at Ralph Lundy Field.

Twelve minutes into the game, Upstate used quick foot work and a pass to take a 1-0 lead on a shot just past a diving Savannah Barron. The remainder of the first half, Charleston outshot the Spartans, 5-2, but could not find the net.

The Cougars took charge in the second half with six shots in the first 18 minutes including three from Caroline Fowlkes. Antonio's goal, assisted by Mary Alexander, was the sixth shot of the sequence to even the score at 1-1.

Olivia Freitas attempted to give Charleston the edge with a header that hit the crossbar before Nassetta put in the rebound to even the match. Emma Revels along with Freitas were credited with assists.

It stayed that way until three minutes remained in the game when the Spartans were able to come up with the game-tying goal.

Quote from Coach Michner

"Tonight, was really a tale of two halves. In the first half we created some solid chances to score but never really felt settled. Credit to Upstate for taking us out of our rhythm and really forcing us to make some changes at the break. The second half was all Cougars, and we went ahead but unfortunately couldn't hold on to win it. We will need to rebound pretty quickly as we lace them up again on Sunday against a very good Utah team."
