CHARLESTON, S.C. – College of Charleston returns to the road on Sunday for a 1 p.m. game against Georgia Southern at Eagle Field in Statesboro.
The Cougars will be looking to break into the win column after their 2-1 loss to Mercer on Thursday dropped them to 0-3-1. The Eagles have won three of their first four games including a 2-1 victory at Miami last weekend.
Three Cougars have netted their first career goals so far this season, including freshmen Bella Antonio and Shea Vidovic and sophomore Avery Nassetta. Savannah Barron has started all four games in goal and has recorded 13 saves.
Georgia Southern has scored nine goals in its four games led by Smith Cathey with three. Meredith Pugh and Simone Timm both have a goal and two assists, and Quinn Wilson boasts a 1.03 goals against average and 12 saves in four starts.
Charleston holds a 10-9-3 lead in the series and is undefeated in the last eight matchups (5-0-3). However, the majority of the 22 contests came when both teams were members of the Southern Conference, with a 1-1 tie at Patriots Point in 2021 marking the first meeting since the Cougars left the league in 2013.
Following Sunday's game, the Cougars return home next Thursday for their CAA opener against Hampton.
