CHARLESTON, S.C. - The defending CAA champion College of Charleston women's golf team opens the 2023-24 campaign by hosting 2023 Cougar Classic on Monday. The nationally renowned tournament runs Sept. 11-12 at Yeamans Hall Club in Charleston, S.C. with 36 holes on Monday and a final round of 18 holes on Tuesday.
Head coach Jamie Futrell returns all but one member of last year's record-setting team, including CAA Golfer of the Year and WGCA All-American Emma Schimpf. CAA first teamers Viktoria Hund and Adrian Anderson are back along with second teamer Othilie Lied. Emilie von Finckenstein is the lone rookie on the squad for the fall campaign.
CofC will waste no time facing tough competition as they face a loaded 17-team field that includes 15 programs from Power 5 conferences with four teams ranked in the Golfweek Top 25 and five team ranked in the WGCA Coaches Poll. Futrell has called this season's schedule the toughest in program history.
Last year, the Cougars peaked at No. 25 in the WGCA Coaches Poll and No. 15 in the Golfweek Women's Team Collegiate Rankings.
The tournament at Yeamans Hall Club is open to the public and admission is free. Play begins Monday morning with an 8:30 a.m. shotgun start after the tournament officially tees off with a special bagpipe ceremony.
