CHARLESTON, S.C. – College of Charleston embarks on a three-game road stretch on Thursday at 6 p.m. when the Cougars face Drexel at Vidas Field in Philadelphia.
The Cougars earned a draw with Hofstra and a win over Campbell last week and did not concede a goal in either match. Charleston is 2-2-1 in CAA play and tied for sixth with seven points, and the Dragons are 0-3-2 in the league and in 11th place with two points.
Defense has been the calling card recently for the Cougars with the clean sheets against the Pride and Camels continuing a run during which Charleston has allowed only four goals in its last five games. Shae Yocum was named the CAA Defensive Player of the Week on Monday, and goalkeeper Savannah Barron ranks fourth in the league with a 34 saves and a .756 save percentage.
Drexel is the third-highest scoring team in the CAA with 20 goals in 11 games but have also allowed 19. The Dragons posted their third three-goal game of the season last Sunday in a 5-3 loss at Towson.
The teams have met 10 times since the Cougars joined the CAA in 2013, and Drexel has won seven of those matchups. The Dragons won, 3-2, last season at Ralph Lundy Field with Mary Alexander and Abby Fisher scoring the Charleston goals.
