Cougars and Seahawks Meet in Championship Rematch

WILMINGTON, N.C. -  Charleston travels to UNCW to take on the Seahawks for the first time since the 2023 CAA Championship on Saturday. The affair will air on CBS Sports Network, the Cougars' first of four appearances on the network during the regular season. Action is set for 6:00 p.m.

STORYLINES
  • The Cougars are coming off an 82-78 loss to Towson on Thursday, their first loss since December 2. The defeat snapped a nine-game win streak and a 12-game home win streak dating back to February 8, 2023. Kobe Rodgers scored a career-high 24 points in the contest.
  • Charleston won all three meetings between the teams a season ago, highlighted by a 63-58 win in the CAA Championship. Ante Brzovic led the returning Cougars with 16 points and eight rebounds to help the Cougars win their first league title since 2018.
  • The all-time series between the programs is tied 18-18. Prior to last year's three victories, Charleston had lost five in a row to the Seahawks. The programs will meet again on February 1 at TD Arena in Charleston.
  • The Cougars currently rank ninth in the nation in bench points per game (34.44), third in three-point attempts per game (31.3), and 17th in threes made per game (9.9). Individually, point guard CJ Fulton is seventh in the country in assist/turnover ratio (3.84).
  • Through the start of CAA play, Charleston's bench has outscored its opponents 160-65.
  • Junior Reyne Smith will be a Cougar to watch over the next few contests as he approaches 1,000 career points. He sits at 963 entering the battle with the Seahawks. Smith set the Charleston single game three record with nine makes earlier this season vs. St. Joseph's. He is third all-time in career triples made in school history (231). SCOUTING THE SEAHAWKS
  • UNCW defeated Elon 82-70 Thursday night on the road. Trazarien White led the Seahawks with 31 points. UNCW is  12-5 overall and 3-2 in the CAA.
  • White leads the Seahawks with 20.9 points per game followed by Shykeim Phillips with 13.9.
