Late Goal Pushes Cougars Past Pirates

HAMPTON, Va. – College of Charleston women's soccer defeated Hampton on the road 1-0 on Thursday afternoon.
The Cougars came out pressuring the Pirates, tallying 13 shots on goal in the first half. Despite numerous opportunities, the Cougars were unable to find the back of the net, entering the break with a scoreless game.
Charleston continued to press in the second half, finding a late goal in the 81st minute to push past Hampton. A throw into the box ricocheted to the feet of Bella Antonio, who was able to place the ball into the left side of the net. After scoring late versus Elon, Antonio now has goals in back-to-back games.
The Cougars outshot their opponent 22-1 in the contest, with Faith Slimmer leading the Charleston offense with five shots. Shea Vidovic tallied three shots, hitting the post in the first half to almost give the Cougars the lead.
The Charleston defense only allowed one shot in the matchup, which was blocked by Shae Yocum in the first half. Keeping the Hampton attack out of the final third, Savannah Barron did not receive a shot on goal from the Pirates.
With the win, the Cougars improve to 3-2-3 in conference play, moving into CAA Tournament contention with their back-to-back conference victories.
Charleston will return to action on Sunday, October 20 to host Delaware at Patriots Point for their annual pink game. Kickoff is slated for 12:00 p.m. and will be livestreamed on FloFC.
