STONY BROOK, N.Y. – College of Charleston women's soccer fell to Elon in the first round of the CAA Tournament, 2-1.
A goal in the 72
nd minute from
Caroline Fowlkes equalized the game at 1-1, but a goal with four minutes remaining in the matchup for the Phoenix pushed them to the 2-1 win over the Cougars.
Charleston outshot their opponent 20-9 on the day, forcing the Elon goalkeeper to seven saves. A pair of shots from
Emma Wennar and a shot from outside the box from
Shea Vidovic nearly gave the Cougars the edge in the first but were unable to find the back of the net. The score remained level at 0-0 going into the half.
Elon was the first to strike, scoring in the 61
st minute. Despite outshooting the Phoenix 9-5 in the second, Elon's two goals propelled them to the win.
The Cougars end their season with an 11-4-5 record, making their first postseason tournament in six years.
