ELON, N.C. – The College of Charleston men's soccer team fell to Hofstra in the opening round of the conference tournament 3-2 in double overtime.
Hofstra took the 1-0 lead early in the first half, despite multiple opportunities from the Cougars the team entered the break with the one goal deficit.
Taking charge in the second half, Charleston opened the door when a corner kick in the 65
th minute found
Noah Gold in the box, who flicked it to
Matt Lenert for the header into the back of the net.
The Pride regained the lead with 18 minutes remaining in regulation, but a perfectly placed volley from
Ryan Watson evened the score once again with ten minutes left to play.
At the end of the 90 minutes, both teams entered overtime. The Cougars pressed but were unable to find the back of the net. With two minutes remaining overtime, a Hofstra corner curved into the back of the net to call the game.
The Cougars end their season 10-6-2, making the postseason for the first time since 2017.
