The College of Charleston softball team dropped a 6-5 decision to Hampton after 11 innings of play on Friday afternoon.
Shealyn Starks drove in the first run in the top of the second, and
Brooke Marquez hit a solo home run in the third before the Pirates tied it back up with two runs in the bottom of the frame.
Marquez had a stellar day at the plate, going 3-5 with a triple and a home run while also scoring three of the Cougars' runs. She reached base on an error in the top of the fifth and scored on a passed ball to regain the Cougar lead.
Savannah Lockhart then drove in
Halle Cannon to push the advantage to 4-2.
Cannon also recorded three hits in the game including an RBI to bring home Marquez after her triple.
The Pirates were down to their last three outs before hitting a two-RBI single in the seventh to tie the game back up.
Neither team could score the go-ahead run until Hampton loaded the bases in the 11th frame and walked it off.
The Cougars and Pirates will face off again in the second game of the weekend at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday.
