CHARLESTON, S.C. - The College of Charleston women's golf team will attend the Liz Murphey Collegiate Classic hosted by the University of Georgia from March 29-30 in Athens, Georgia. The tournament is one of the oldest sporting events in all of women's intercollegiate athletics with this weekend serving as the 52nd edition.
The Cougars are coming off a top ten finish in their own Briar's Creek invitational. Emma Schimpf led the Cougars with a T11 after a 2-under round, rising 11 positions from her day one finish. This performance landed her the title of CAA Golfer of the Week for the second time this season.
The Liz Murphy Collegiate Classic began in 1973. The tournament is named after Liz Murphey, an assistant professor and golf coach at Georgia and the first ever Women's Golf Coaches Association National Coach of the Year in 1984.
Last year, the Cougars finished 11th in the Classic with Emma Schimpf finishing at T10 after inclement weather canceled the final day of play.
