STONY BROOK, N.Y. – College of Charleston baseball knocked off Stony Brook 6-2 to complete a sweep on the Cougars first ever trip to Stony Brook. Charleston moves to 17-9 on the year with a 4-2 mark in CAA play.
After using the bats to top the Seawolves both Friday and Saturday, Charleston rode veteran left-handed pitcher
Connor Campbell to victory on Sunday. Campbell shutout the Seawolves for the first seven innings of the day, allowing the Cougars to take a 6-0 lead.
The Cougars used the long-ball to build that lead.
Cole Singsank got it started with a two-run shot in the second.
Avery Neaves then hit a solo shot in the third before
Cole Mathis made it a 5-0 game in the sixth with a solo homer.
Stony Brook found some late success to make it interesting. The Seawolves scored twice in the eighth and then brought the tying run to the plate with two outs in the ninth.
Davis Aiken was able to get the final out on a pop-up in foul ground to
Cole Mathis.
Key Cougars
- Connor Campbell moves to 4-1 on the season. Campbell surrendered two runs from six hits and a walk, striking out two in eight-plus innings.
- Cole Mathis finished 3-for-4 with a solo homer and two runs scored.
- Cole Singsank finished 2-for-4 with a homer, two RBI and a run.
- Avery Neaves added a solo homer. Ben Venables had two hits and an RBI, his first as a Cougar. Tyler Sorrentino also added a hit and RBI.
