Cougars Make Final Preparations for CAAs at Aggie Invitational

CHARLESTON, S.C. – College of Charleston heads to Greensboro, N.C., this weekend for the Aggie Invitational to tune up for the CAA Championship.
Two weeks ago, Charleston competed at the USC Open under the South Carolina sun and 90 degree heat. Rhian Purves and Savannah Stoutt prevailed with wins and a record book shake-up.
Purves raced for an impressive coast-to-coast 1500 win (4:32.08), the second time this season she has won in the event, both leading from start to finish. Purves is currently ranked eighth in the distance in the CAA.
Stoutt, who has impressed in her freshman campaign, won the 3k steeplechase (11:20.66), entering the top 10 in the Charleston record book and giving the Cougars a change in the annals for the first time since 2018. In addition, Stoutt is ranked eighth in the conference leaderboard.
Looking to this weekend, the Cougars look to fine-tune their race strategies and practices to build momentum before heading to Elon the following weekend for CAAs.
Keep an eye out for Kaitlynn Bailey, who will be going against stiff competition in the 100 and will look to reset her own school record after racing in unfavorable headwinds previously.
Furthermore, the 1500 will be filled with maroon with seven Cougars competing. Specifically in the race will be Maeve Gimbert and Cayden Crismon, who will be cutting nearly 4000 meters off their usual distances to throw down some fast times.
