CHARLESTON, S.C. - The College of Charleston Cheerleaders and Cougarettes Dance Team attended their yearly preseason camps this summer, collecting prestigious recognition from the National Cheerleaders Association and Universal Dance Association.
The Charleston Cheerleading program, led by Sam Keohane, attended NCA camp in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. The team won first place in crowd segment routine and second place in rally routine. They collected three superior blue ribbons, a spirit stick and a Silver Paid Bid to the 2025 NCA College Nationals in Daytona Beach, Florida. Additionally, Clyde the Cougar was named an All-American Mascot and earned his own Full Paid Bid to NCA Nationals.
"I am so proud of this team for walking away from camp with a well deserved, Silver Paid Bid to NCA College Nationals. This level of bid is a first for our program and is a testament to the to success these athletes are willing to strive for," said Keohane. "There is an insane amount of talent this year and I'm looking forward to seeing them use the material, technique and skills learned at camp to enhance the game day environment in TD Arena and take home some hardware in April."
The Cougarettes, led by Erica Slaughter, attended UDA Camp at East Tennessee State University. The team represented Charleston in the Home Routine competition with a hip hop performance, earning first place, while all dancers achieved individual blue ribbon recognition. The team left Tennessee with the Collegiate Recognition Award, presented to the program with the most collegiate representation of their school. The Cougarettes also were awarded with a Superior Game Day Performance, and a Superior All-Around plaque.
The team will compete at UDA Nationals this January. Catch the Charleston Cheerleaders and Cougarettes on the court this fall!
