SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The College of Charleston men's soccer team defeated USC Upstate on the road 5-1, to advance to 2-0 on the season.
The Cougars came out hot, scoring in the 6
th minute to get on the board with a long shot from
Ezra White.
Leonardo D'Ambrosio doubled the lead in the 14
th minute, sneaking the ball into the net from the right post.
Charleston tallied two more goals in the first half, with a shot in the 30
th minute from
Etienne Julien and from
Chris Elliott in the 41
st minute.
Matt Lenert finished the day off for the Cougars in the second half with a one-touch volley into the back of the net in the 62
nd minute to give the Cougars a 5-0 lead. The Spartans were able to get on the board in the 83
rd minute to end the game.
Charleston outshot USC Upstate 19-3 in the matchup, with 13 shots on goal. Through two games, the Cougar offense has tallied nine goals to start the season.
The Cougars return to Charleston for their home opener at Patriots Point on Monday, September 2 to face Stetson at 6:00 p.m. The matchup will be livestreamed on FloFC.
