CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – College of Charleston lost its final game of the Carolina Classic to Cleveland State in straight sets (11-25, 24-26 and 21-25) Sunday morning in Carmichael Arena.

The Cougars finish the tournament with a 1-2 record to begin the season while the Vikings hold a 2-1 mark.
Anna Smith had 10 kills in the loss while
Emily Banitt and
Tynley Smeltzer picked up 13 and 16 digs on the defensive side, respectively. Liberty Torres had a match-best 14 kills as the Vikings had a .248 team attack percentage.

WHEN THE GAME WAS DECIDED:
- Cleveland State held a 22-21 advantage in the third set as Charleston was mounting a comeback, but Torres' kill to give the Vikings a two-point advantage kicked off three straight points to help the opposition secure the sweep.

CRITICAL POINTS AGAINST CLEVELAND STATE:
- Smith posted 10 kills and 34 total attacks while Cailyn Bolser registered eight to go along with a game-best .583 attack percentage.
- The Cougars collected 29 of their 34 kills across the final two sets.
- Charleston bested Cleveland State in digs, 57-54.

OF NOTE:
- Charleston is 0-1 against Cleveland State, having played the Vikings for the first time in program history Sunday.
- Smith recorded her 33rd career game with 10-plus kills and second this weekend.
- Bolser's eight kills were the most in a match during her time with Charleston.
- Four different Cougars posted multiple blocks, paced by Bolser and Allie Holland's three blocks apiece.
- Olivia Angell, Banitt, Holland and Smeltzer appeared in all 10 sets in the Carolina Classic.
- Banitt was named to the Carolina Classic All-Tournament Team.
