CHARLESTON, S.C. - The College of Charleston men's soccer team will host Jacksonville at Patriots Point on Friday, September 6 in their 50th Anniversary celebration and Aaron Olitsky memorial game.
The Cougars started the season off strong with a 3-0 winning streak, most recently coming off a win against Stetson earlier this week. The Cougars took the lead early in the first half, with a long distance shot from Leonardo D'Ambrosio hit the back of the net in the eighth minute.
With the possession favoring Stetson in the second half, the Cougars found a breakaway play in the 76th minute. Matt Lenert beat the final defender to place the ball into the bottom left corner, giving Charleston the game winning goal.
The Dolphins are 1-2-1 in the 2024 season, most recently tying Winthrop at home. Jacksonville traveled to Columbia on Wednesday night to face South Carolina, but the game was called due to weather.
This will be the seventh time these teams have met, last meeting in 2009. Charleston holds a 5-1 overall record versus Jacksonville. With a win on Friday night, the Cougars will advance to a 4-0 record for the first time since the 2009 season.
Friday's matchup will begin the men's soccer program's 50th anniversary celebration weekend, first with an alumni tailgate prior to kickoff. Also during the game, the program is proud to honor the late Aaron Olitsky, who played for College of Charleston coach Ralph Lundy and the Cougars from 1993 to 1996. Olitsky had the game-winning goals that sent the Cougars to the NCAA Tournament in 1994, 1995 and 1996.
The following morning, the program will host an alumni match at Patriots Point Field 1 at 10:00 a.m. That evening, there will be a Banquet in the Practice Gym of TD Arena at 5:00 p.m. followed by a Captain's Reception at TBonz on Market Street.
"The 50th anniversary of College of Charleston Men's Soccer is an astonishing monument," said Wiggans. "There are alumni from every era coming to celebrate and it will be an incredible weekend. All alumni will be recognized at the match against Jacksonville Friday night, followed by numerous activities on Saturday."
Kickoff is set for 7:00 pm and will be livestreamed on FloFC.
