CHARLESTON, S.C. – The College of Charleston men's soccer team defeated Jacksonville 2-0 on Friday night in front of an alumni crowd to advance to 4-0 on the season.
The Cougars remained level throughout the majority of the first half with the Dolphins, until
Leonardo D'Ambrosio found the back of the net with less than 30 seconds remaining until the break.
Chris Elliott headed the ball over the Jacksonville defensive line to find D'Ambrosio, who placed the ball into the left corner.
With four saves in the second half,
Olly Marshall helped Charleston keep the 1-0 advantage until
Matt Lenert doubled the lead for the Cougars. A cross from
Ezra White into the middle of the box found the feet of Lenert, who was able to perfectly place the ball into the goal. D'Ambrosio and Lenert both have four goals on the season, scoring in every game.
The Dolphins continued to press with eight shots in the second half and seven corner kicks, but a strong Cougar defense secured the shutout for their fourth-straight win.
During Friday night's matchup, Charleston celebrated its 50
th anniversary, honoring all past alumni at halftime as well as the late Aaron Olitsky prior to the game.
The 50
th anniversary weekend continues with an alumni scrimmage Saturday morning at Patriots Point and an anniversary banquet Saturday evening at TD Arena.
The Cougars will return to action on Tuesday, September 10 in Charlotte, taking on Queens. Kickoff is slated for 6:00 p.m. and will be livestreamed on ESPN+.
