ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. – The top eight teams in the South Atlantic Intercollegiate Sailing Association (SAISA) raced in the season-opening regatta at USF Sept. 7-8. College of Charleston finished second with 130 total points – just 10 behind regatta winner Miami.
Noah Zittrer and
Clara Murphy were dominant in the A division, posting a first-place finish in the regatta with 41 total points. The duo Jonnie Ciffolilo and
Aidan Iaconis logged 99 total points, finishing sixth in the regatta.
The top three teams, Miami (140), Charleston (130) and Jacksonville (165) distanced themselves throughout the course of the weekend, with a 77-point gap between third and fourth place.
CofC was one of five schools that qualified for the ACC open semifinals.
The Cougars return to the waters this weekend when they travel to Annapolis, Md., to take part in the Shields Trophy, beginning Friday, Sept. 13.
