CHARLESTON, S.C. – The College of Charleston cross country teams will compete in the Upstate Invitational hosted by USC Upstate Saturday, October 17. The women will race a 5k beginning at 9:00 a.m. while the men will race an 8k with the shotgun going off at 9:45.
Saturday's race will mark the third 5k of the season for the women, and the third 8k of the season for the men.
The last time out, the Charleston men placed fourth of 11 teams at the Fire Tower Project in Boone, N.C. Freshman
Will Buckley lead the Cougars with an 8k time of 25:44.2 to place 25th and scoring 21 points. Following Buckley was graduate student
Declan Byrne placing 26th with a time of 25:47.4. The men scored 132 points total and outran Radford, Coastal Carolina, SCAD Savannah, Lees-McRae, The Citadel, Erskine, and Lenoir-Rhyne.
At the Fire Tower Project, the women placed fourth of 12 teams, surpassing Radford, James Madison, Coastal Carolina, Lenoir-Rhyne, SCAD Savannah, Lees-McRae, The Citadel, and Erskine. Crossing the line first was
Abby Mogg who finished 14th with a time of 22:10.6 and a new personal record. Mogg scored 14 points for the Cougars.
Cayden Crismon trailed Mogg with a time of 22:13.1 while posting a new personal best. The women's team scored 110 points total.
Charleston has competed in the Upstate Invitational three times before in 2023, 2021, and 2014. The women placed second in 2021.
