BUIES CREEK, N.C. - The College of Charleston men's soccer team scored two late goals but could not overcome an early deficit at Campbell, falling 3-2 in CAA action.
The Cougars struggled to find offensive rhythm in the opening frame, recording just two shots with one on goal.
Campbell added their first tally to the board on a Charleston own goal in the 28th minute. The Camels added their second nine minutes later to take a 2-0 advantage into the locker room.
The Camels added their third goal of the evening four out of the half to make it 3-0.
Lennon Gill and Matt Lenert helped spark the offense with shots on goal before Ben Bagshaw fired a blast from outside the box to make it 3-1 in 74th minute. The ball found Bagshaw after a free kick from Ezequiel Emanuele Goetzke rebounded directly to the sophomore's path.
Bagshaw now leads the Cougars with five goals this season, scoring three in the last two matches.
Just six minutes later, the Cougars found Stian Bendvold on a quick transition attack who sent a cross to Pavel Dashin for the second Charleston strike of the evening. The goal was Dashin's third of the season to go with Bendvold's third assist.
Dashin had the Cougars best chance to tie the game in the 88th minute with a shot that went just over the pipes, unable to connect.
Campbell outshot Charleston 12-9 and took three corner kicks compared to the Cougars' two. A battle from the start, the contest saw nine total yellow cards drawn between the two teams.
Charleston, 4-7-1 and 1-3-1 in the CAA, returns to action on Tuesday, October 7 for non-conference action when the Cougars welcome North Florida to Patriots Point. Kickoff is set for 7:00 p.m. All fans are encouraged to wear black to cheer on the Cougars!
