WILMINGTON, N.C.- College of Charleston women's basketball fought back from a 14-point deficit to defeat UNCW on the road 64-61 on Sunday afternoon.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Seahawks outscored the Cougars 19-10 in the second quarter as the Cougars headed into the half down five points.
- Back-to-back triples from UNCW gave them the first double-digit lead over Charleston, increasing to their biggest lead of 14 halfway through the third.
- A three-point shot from Sophia Tougas cut the deficit to 11, while made free throws from Taylor Barbot and McKinley Brooks-Sumpter brought the deficit to single-digits heading into the final quarter.
- Charleston outscored their opponent 22-11 in the final frame to take the win.
- Back-to-back free triples from Sophia Tougas and Taylor Barbot brought the Cougars within one point of the Seahawks. On the inbound, Lara Rohkohl grabbed the steal and Taryn Barbot drew the foul, putting Charleston up one.
- In the final seconds of the matchup, a driving layup from Taylor Barbot brought the lead to three, securing the victory.
LEADING COUGARS
- Rohkohl led the way with 14 points and a career-high 19 rebounds on the day, also notching her 500th rebound and 500th point. The junior forward also grabbed five steals in the matchup.
- Brooks-Sumpter also grabbed a double-double with 11 points and ten rebounds, leading the team with four assists.
- Taylor Barbot finished the day with 13 points and a perfect performance from the charity stripe.
- Tougas knocked down 11 points, including a clutch shot from beyond the arc to bring the Cougars within one of the Seahawks.
