WILLIAMSBURG, Va.- Charleston women's basketball defeated William & Mary on Sunday afternoon after an explosive second quarter led the Cougars to a 79-76 victory. CofC improves to 9-4 in conference play.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- A slow start for the Cougars resulted in a 14-point deficit after the first ten minutes of play.
- Back-to-back triples from Taryn Barbot and Sophia Tougas in the second frame cut the deficit to single digits, followed by an 8-0 scoring run to take the lead halfway through the quarter. Charleston took a five-point lead heading into the break.
- Halfway through the third quarter, Tougas and Taryn Barbot once again knocked down a pair of threes giving CofC its largest lead of the day by nine.
- Heading into the final frame with a two-point lead, the Cougars converted on key plays, led by Taylor Barbot with drives to the rim to maintain the lead.
- A solid defensive performance on the last play of the game left the Tribe unable to shoot for the tie, with Charleston finishing on top with the three-point victory.
- With the win, the Cougars earn their seventh road win and ninth win in conference play.
LEADING COUGARS
- Taryn Barbot filled it up with a 25 point performance, knocking down 16 points in the second quarter. Nearing a double-double, the sophomore guard grabbed eight rebounds on the day.
- Sophia Tougas tallied 16 points in the win, knocking down three key buckets beyond the arc along with four assists.
- Lara Rohkohl grabbed a double-double with 12 points and a game-high 15 rebounds.
