No. 3 Cougars Open 2025 Jersey Mike's CAA Men's Basketball Championship on Sunday

WASHINGTON, DC – The College of Charleston men's basketball team will look for the program's third straight CAA title at the 2025 Jersey Mike's CAA Men's Basketball Championship at CareFirst Arena in Washington, D.C.

STORYLINES
  • The Cougars won back-to-back titles in 2023 and 2024 and enter this year's tournament as the No. 3 seed. Charleston was the No. 2 seed in 2023 and No. 1 seed in 2024.
  • Four Cougars earned recognition on the 2024-25 CAA Men's Basketball Postseason Awards, highlighted by Ante Brzovic being named to his second straight All-CAA First Team. CJ Fulton and Derrin Boyd were named to the All-CAA Third Team while Justas Stonkus earned a spot on the All-Rookie Team. Fulton was also named the CAA Scholar-Athlete of the Year. Charleston's four selections are the most of any team in the league.
  • Charleston enters the tournament with wins over Delaware and Campbell to conclude the regular season. The Cougars sank 11 triples vs. Campbell, the tenth time this season Charleston has sank at least ten threes. Charleston's 24 assists on 34 made field goals were also a season-high.
  • Brzovic ranks in the top three in the CAA in both points per game and rebounds per game, the only player in the league in the top ten in both categories.  He is currently ninth in the nation in total field goals (226) and 16th in defensive rebounds per game (6.65). Brzovic's 226 made field goals currently rank 11th in a single season in school history.
  • Fulton has led the nation in assist/turnover ratio since January 11, dishing out at least seven assists 13 times including five games with 10+. His 199 assists this season are the third most in a single season in school history. He also ranks ninth in the nation in total assists and assists per game.
  • Deywilk Tavarez joins the Cougars in the national ranks, boasting the 25th best three-point percentage in the country.
  • Several Cougars are closing in on key milestones. AJ Smith needs 32 points to reach 1,000 career points. Fulton is four rebounds away from 500, while Brzovic is 12 from 1,000.
POTENTIAL MATCH-UPS
  • Charleston will play the winner of No. 6 Monmouth vs. No. 11 Hofstra. The Cougars faced both teams on the road in January.
  • The Cougars topped Hofstra 67-61 on January 9 behind a big second half effort, shooting 48% in the second half compared to 35% from the Pride. Charleston earned 14 points off Hofstra's 12 turnovers while committing a season-low six.
  • Monmouth handed the Cougars their first CAA loss of the season just two days later in West Long Branch. Down by as much as 19, Charleston cut the lead to ten at 76-66 with two minutes to play but could not complete the comeback, falling 84-70.
