Long Ball Leads Charleston to Sunday Victory

MT PLEASANT, S.C. – Graduate Avery Neaves and redshirt junior Ethan Plyler homered in the fifth inning to help lead College of Charleston to an 11-4 win against App State Sunday afternoon at Patriots Point.

The Cougars improve to 9-4 with the series win while the Mountaineers slip to 7-8 on the year.

Redshirt junior Daniel Brooks earned the victory, striking out four batters in 5.0 innings. The trio of sophomore Hayden Thomas, redshirt junior Alex Lyon and senior Davis Aiken allowed just two base runners in the final four frames.

CRITICAL POINTS AGAINST APP STATE:
  • Freshman Matthew Dominianni scored the game's first run in the second.
  • Down 3-1 in the third, Plyler doubled down the left field line to put Charleston within one.
  • Tied at four in the home half of the fifth, CofC broke the game open with a six spot.
  • After a Dariyan Pendergrass sacrifice fly, Neaves launched a three-run shot.
  • Two batters later, Plyler hit a two-run homer, giving the Cougars double-digit runs for the fifth game this season.
  • Graduate Will Baumhofer drove in his second run of the ballgame in the seventh, giving Charleston 11 runs on the day.
