Cougars Outlasted in Pitching Duel

BROOKLINE, MASS. – College of Charleston baseball surrendered two runs in each of the final two frames as the Cougars lost the series opener to Northeastern, 4-0, Friday afternoon.
 
CofC falls to 22-14 and 7-6 in the CAA while the Huskies improve to a league-best 28-9 overall and 11-2 in the conference.
 
CRITICAL POINTS AGAINST NORTHEASTERN:
  • After six scoreless frames from junior Jake Brink, the Huskies got on the scoreboard with an RBI single in the bottom of the seventh following a one-out triple.
  • Northeastern doubled its lead later in the frame for the 2-0 advantage.
  • The Huskies tacked on a pair of insurance runs in the eighth to hold onto the win.
  • Brink fanned six batters over seven innings of work in the set back.
 
 
OF NOTE:
  • Charleston is 15-19 overall against Northeastern and 5-8 as the visitors.
  • Redshirt junior Alex Lyon appeared in his 68th career game out of the bullpen, taking over sole possession of fifth all-time in program history.
  • Senior Dariyan Pendergrass swiped his 28th bag of the year, tying him with Brett Gardner (2003), Oliver Marmol (2007) and Clay McCord (2009) for eighth all-time in program history in single season swiped bags.
