MT. PLEASANT, S.C. – College of Charleston continued its CAA dominance at Patriots Point with a 1-0 victory over Campbell on Saturday to clinch their sixth series win of the season.
The Cougars (26-23, 16-7 CAA) are 13-1 in conference games at Patriots Point with the six series victories the most since taking seven in 2005. Charleston needs only one more win to match that 2005 team for the most conference wins in school history when they went 17-4 in the SoCon.
The team celebrated Senior Day before the game, and
Kennedy Rhue and
Izzy Alley played key roles in the win. Rhue drove in the only run with a sixth inning double, and Alley came in with two on and two outs in the seventh to retire the final batter and pick up her second save in as many days.
Game Summary
- Ryley Kutter allowed three hits but escaped a bases loaded jam in the top of the first when a Campbell runner left third early on an apparent sac fly.
- Kutter then retired 10 in a row before Campbell loaded the bases with one out in the sixth.
- Austy Miller gunned down a runner at the plate for the second out, and a roller back to the circle was taken care of by Kutter to again keep the Camels off the board.
- The Cougars finally broke through in the bottom of the sixth beginning with a single by Miller which extended her hitting streak to 11 games.
- Following a Leela Langston sacrifice, Rhue dropped a hit in front of the right fielder and Miller raced home for a 1-0 lead.
- Campbell put two on in the seventh, and Alley came in to get a force out at second to secure the shutout.
