NORTH CHARLESTON, S.C. – College of Charleston baseball beat Charleston Southern, 6-4, Tuesday evening at Nielsen Field.
Â
Backed behind eight innings of one-run ball from the bullpen, the Cougars swept the season series and improve to 64-18 all-time against the Bucs.

CRITICAL POINTS AGAINST CHARLESTON SOUTHERN:
- CofC jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the top of the first, courtesy of a sacrifice fly from graduate Avery Neaves and two-run double off the bat of senior Dylan Johnson.
- After giving up a three-run shot in the home half of the opening frame, sophomore Brent Gibbs roped a two-run double to right in the second, giving the Cougars the lead for good.
- Redshirt junior Ethan Plyler added an insurance marker in the seventh, scoring Gibbs on an RBI groundout.
- CSU looked to come back, singling in a run in the eighth to make it 6-4, but couldn't get any more runners to score as senior Davis Aiken recorded the four out save to close the door for the visitors.
- CofC's bullpen allowed one run across eight innings of work. Freshman Drew Medley earned his first career victory, tossing three scoreless innings of relief while allowing just one hit.
Â
OF NOTE:
- Charleston is 64-18 all-time against CSU and 32-6 as the visitors.
- The Cougars have won nine of the last ten meetings between the two schools.
- Johnson extended his hitting streak to nine straight games and picked up his eighth multi-hit and sixth multi-RBI performances of the year.
- Senior Dariyan Pendergrass swiped third in the first inning, giving him 26 stolen bases this season and a swiped bag in six of the last seven games.
- With the bag, Pendergrass is two stolen bases away from entering the top 10 all-time for swiped bags in a single season.
- Redshirt junior Alex Lyon appeared in his 65th career game out of the bullpen Tuesday.
- Aiken earned his sixth save of the campaign and 17th career stop with Charleston, tying him with Michael Hanzlik (2013-14) for sixth all-time in program history.
