Charleston Wins Seventh in a Row

MT. PLEASANT, S.C. – Redshirt junior Ethan Plyler blasted his fifth homer of the season as College of Charleston baseball beat USC Upstate, 7-5, Tuesday evening at Patriots Point.
 
The Cougars won their seventh game in a row, improving to 32-19 overall. With the loss, the Spartans slipped to 30-23.
 
CRITICAL POINTS AGAINST USC UPSTATE:
  • Plyler went 3-for-4 with a walk, two RBI and the homer on Tuesday.
  • Freshman Alex LaCoste also tallied three hits and drove in a season-high three runs.
  • CofC plated three runs in the first behind an RBI single from Plyler and two-run single from LaCoste.
  • Charleston made it a 5-2 ballgame in the third off a sac fly from senior Tyler Sorrentino and double off the bat of senior Ben Venables.
  • Plyler led off the fourth with a solo shot over the left-center wall while LaCoste singled home his third run of the contest later in the frame.
  • Senior Garrick Murray earned his second win of the season, tossing a scoreless sixth inning.
  • Senior Davis Aiken tossed a scoreless ninth en route to picking up his 11th save of the year.
 
OF NOTE:
  • Charleston is 8-5 in the all-time series with USC Upstate and 5-3 at home.
  • CofC extended its winning streak to seven games, where the Cougars are outscoring opponents 65-22.
  • Senior Tyler Sorrentino extended his hitting streak to 11 games, which is the longest this season by a Cougar.
  • CofC has scored multiple runs in the first inning in five of the last six ballgames.
  • Aiken collected his 22nd career save, tying him with William Privette (2021-23) for the fourth-most stops in program history.
  • Redshirt junior Alex Lyon made his 74th career relief appearance Tuesday, the most by a CofC pitcher in their first three seasons at The College.
  • Charleston finished the season 8-2 on Tuesday's, which is the most Tuesday victories under head coach Chad Holbrook.

Charleston closes out the regular season with a three-game series against Hofstra May 15-17. First pitches from Patriots Point are scheduled for 6 p.m., 4 p.m. and noon.
