Charleston Evens Series at W&M

WILLIAMSBURG, Va. – College of Charleston baseball defeated William & Mary in the second game of the series Saturday afternoon, 4-2.

The Cougars improve to 26-19 overall and 9-11 in the CAA while the Tribe slip to 20-26 and 13-7 in league play.

Redshirt junior Daniel Brooks recorded his fifth victory of the season, striking out six batters in 5.2 innings of work. The righty allowed just two runs on four hits.

CRITICAL POINTS AGAINST WILLIAM & MARY:
  • Senior Dylan Johnson launched his fifth homer of the season over the left field scoreboard in the second before William & Mary leveled the contest in the third with a solo home run of its own.
  • The Cougars regained the lead for good in the fifth, courtesy of senior Tyler Sorrentino's sacrifice fly before tacking on a third run the very next inning with an RBI single from graduate Will Baumhofer.
  • Leading 3-2 in the top of the ninth, graduate Avery Neaves connected on an RBI double to bring in an insurance marker for CofC.
  • Neaves also flashed the leather in the grass, robbing a pair of Tribe hitters in the victory.
  • Redshirt junior Alex Lyon tossed a scoreless seventh and eighth innings to bridge the lead to closer Davis Aiken.
  • Aiken thwarted a W&M comeback, securing his ninth save of the campaign.

OF NOTE:
  • Charleston is now 30-13 all-time against William & Mary and 9-8 as the visitor.
  • Lyon made his 72nd career appearance out of the bullpen, tying him with Dre Watts (2010-13) for fourth all-time in program history.
  • Aiken collected his 20th career save, tying him with Carter Love (2015-18) for fifth in school history.
  • Senior Dariyan Pendergrass swiped his 30th bag of the year in the third.
  • Senior Tyler Sorrentino extended his hitting streak to five games on Saturday.
