
Charleston Drops Season Opener at Georgia Southern

STATESBORO, Ga. – Though the College of Charleston women's tennis team won the doubles point, CofC (0-1) dropped its season opener 2-5 to Georgia Southern (1-2) at Wallis Tennis Center Friday afternoon.
In doubles, Harper Santos and Riley Trinkle earned a 6-3 victory on court two, while Sia Cariov and Francesca Salvato sealed the doubles point for the Cougars as they won court one 6-3.
In singles, the Eagles quickly gained a 2-1 lead with a pair of two-set wins on courts one and five. Georgia Southern then increased its lead to 3-1 with a straight-set victory on court four. The Eagles were able to clinch the match with their fourth two-set win – this time on court two. GSU swept court No. 3, but Harper Santos earned a point for the Cougars as she won a hard-fought 6-0, 3-6, 6-3 three-set battle on court No. 6. Despite Santos' effort, Georgia Southern won the match 5-2.

UP NEXT – The Cougars will be back in action Saturday, January 24 for a road contest at Mercer. First serve is set for 10 a.m., and there will be no live stats or stream for Saturday's match.
