CHARLESTON, S.C. – The College of Charleston women's tennis team (5-5, 0-1) fell 4-3 to William & Mary (10-3, 4-0) at the Turner Tennis Center on Saturday afternoon.
"Today was such an incredible and exciting college tennis match," Head Coach Angelo Anastopoulo said. "It doesn't get much closer than today, and both teams should be proud of their fight. We came up a bit short, but I couldn't have asked for more from this team. It's time to prepare for a much improved Towson team on Tuesday."
In doubles, Sia Cariov and Francesca Salvato won 6-3 in slot No. 1, but William & Mary earned victories on courts two and three as the Tribe took a 1-0 lead into singles.
Sia Cariov opened singles with a a 6-2, 6-2 win on court No. 1 as the Cougars tied the contest 1-all. William & Mary retook the lead with a two-set win on court four, but the Cougars quickly retied the match as Riley Trinkle earned her own straight set win in slot No. 6 (7-6, 6-4).
The Tribe then won a three-set battle in the third position to take a 3-2 advantage before winning court two in three sets to clinch the match.
Marra Bruce earned a hard-fought 0-6, 6-5, 7-6 three set victory on court five to make the final score 4-3 in favor of the Tribe.
