CHARLESTON, S.C. – The College of Charleston women's tennis team (8-5) won a hard fought 4-3 battle with South Florida (5-10) at the Turner Tennis Center on Thursday afternoon.
"What a great team effort today," Head Coach Angelo Anastopoulo said. "We won a solid doubles point that was followed by a tremendous performance by Francesca Salvato to give us a quick 2-0 lead. However, USF would push us to our limit taking a 3-2 lead. Oziera Amhad crawled back from a set down to win two straight sets and force a deciding match on court four. Senior Jaiden McKee showed incredible courage to come back from 1-4 third set defecit to clinch the 4-3 victory over a very solid USF team. We had such a fun and great atmosphere all day."
Oziera Ahmad and Riley Trinkle teamed up to win court two 6-2, while Sia Cariov and Francesca Salvato earned a 6-4 win on court one to clinch the doubles point for the Cougars.
Francesca Salvato began singles with a dominant 6-3, 6-2 win on court three as she put CofC in front 2-0. The Bulls then won courts six, one and five to take a 3-2 lead, but Oziera Ahmad rallied from a set down and won her last two sets in convincing fashion (6-0, 6-3) to tie the match 3-all.
With all eyes turning to court four, Jaiden McKee found herself in a winner-take-all third set with the score 4-1 in favor of her opponent. From there, McKee stormed back to win her final set 7-5 and win the match for the Cougars.
