CHARLESTON, S.C. – The College of Charleston women's tennis team (8-6, 2-2) fell 5-2 to No. 72 Elon (11-3, 2-0) at the Turner Tennis Center on Tuesday afternoon.
"Elon proved why they won the conference championship last year," Head Coach Angelo Anastopoulo said. "They did a good job closing out key moments and were able to pull out three tough three-set wins this afternoon. It's time to recover and get ready for a much improved Drexel team tomorrow."
Sia Cariov and Francesca Salvato rolled past their opponents on court one (6-1), while Oziera Ahmad and Riley Trinkle paired up to win court two 6-2 to clinch the doubles point for the Cougars. Jaiden McKee and Saige Severance were tied 3-3 with their opponents on court No. 3 when Charleston clinched the point.
Elon opened singles with a pair of straight set sweeps on courts two and three as the Phoenix quickly took a 2-1 lead. Jaiden McKee then tied the match 2-all with her own two-set win (7-5, 6-4) in slot No. 4.
Elon then won court six in three sets before clinching the match with another three-set win on court one. The Phoenix finished the day with a three-set win in slot No. 5 as No. 72 Elon defeated Charleston 5-2.
