Charleston Guts Out 4-3 Win Over Drexel

CHARLESTON, S.C. – The College of Charleston women's tennis team (9-6, 3-2) gutted out a 4-3 over the Drexel Dragons (7-5, 3-2) at the Turner Tennis Center on Wednesday afternoon.
"Today was a gutsy victory in a very important CAA match," Head Coach Angelo Anastopoulo said. "Drexel deserves a lot of credit for pushing us to the absolute limit in one of their first outdoor matches. They are a much improved team and will be a tough opponent for anyone they play. We need two solid days of practice as we prepare for N.C. A&T on Saturday."
The Cougars dominated all three doubles courts and took a 1-0 lead into singles. Oziera Ahmad and Riley Trinkle first won 6-1 on court two before Isabella De Luise and Saige Severance teamed up to win court three 6-3 and Sia Cariov and Francesca Salvato earned a 6-1 triumph in the No. 1 slot.
Trinkle pushed the Cougars' lead to two as she opened singles with a convincing 6-2, 6-2 win on court five. Drexel then tied the match 2-all after a pair of two-set wins on courts six and four.
Sia Cariov got Charleston its third point with a three-set win in the No. 1 position, but the Dragons tied the match once more with a win on court two.
With all eyes turned to the all-deciding third court, Francesca Salvato found herself in a third set trailing 2-1. From there, Salvato won the next four games to take control of the set with a 5-2 advantage. The Dragons held serve, but Salvato won the next game to clinch the set and the match for the Cougars.
