Men's Soccer Resumes CAA Play at Elon

ELON, N.C. – The College of Charleston men's soccer team returns to conference play on Saturday, September 19 at Elon. Action is set for 12:00 p.m.

QUICK KICKS — Charleston has started the 2026 season 4-1-1 and 1-1 in CAA play. The Cougars are coming off a 2-1 non-conference victory over USC Upstate at County University Soccer Stadium last Saturday afternoon.
Charleston is led by Keith Wiggans who is entering his seventh season at the helm of the Cougars. Wiggans' assistant coaches are Jet Terry (2nd season), Ernesto Aguinaga-Hernandez (2nd season) and Jake Douvas (1st season). Anissa Williams also enters her first season with the Cougars as the team's Head of Data Analytics.
LAST TIME OUT —The Cougars are coming off a comeback 2-1 win over USC Upstate on September 12. In the 65th minute, Arnau Ollé scored his first goal as a Cougar on a 1-on-1 attempt in the box. Matt Lenert continued his impressive campaign by adding Charleston's second goal by draining a volley on a second chance attempt to put the Cougars up 2-1 and secure the victory.
Lenert's performance against the Spartans, in addition to his two goals against Winthrop earlier in the week, earned him his second CAA Offensive Player of the Week. The senior currently leads the CAA in goals, points, and game-winning goals and ranks fifth in the NCAA in total goals. Lenert was named to TopDrawerSoccer.com's National Team of the Week for the second time this season.
SCOUTING THE PHOENIX — The Phoenix are 3-2-1 on the year and are on a two-game win streak, coming off a 3-0 victory over Radford last Tuesday at home.
MATCHUP HISTORY VS. ELON— The Cougars are 12-13-3 all-time against the Phoenix. The teams played to a 0-0 draw on October 18, 2025 in Charleston. Saturday marks the first of two meetings between Charleston and Elon this season with the Phoenix returning to Charleston on October 10.
THE WIGGANS FILE — Keith Wiggans enters his seventh season as head coach at his alma mater in 2026 after being promoted from associate head coach in December 2019. Wiggans spent 11 seasons serving under his college coach and the program's all-time winningest coach, Ralph Lundy, who retired in following the 2019 season. Wiggans was an assistant coach for nine years and associate head coach for two seasons before taking over the program. He was part of the staff which won the Southern Conference title and made its fifth appearance in the NCAA Tournament in 2010.
