Cougars Earn Draw with Tribe to Open CAA Play

Charleston, S.C. - The College of Charleston women's soccer team earned a 1-1 draw with William & Mary on Saturday, September 19 to open CAA play.

The Cougars fell behind early as the Tribe found the back of the net in the second minute.

Goalkeeper Ainsley Chunn recorded her first save of the match in the 20th minute, coming off her line to stop the rolling shot. Chunn went on to collect three saves in the opening half.

Senior Bella Antonio leveled the score in the 37th minute, finding the top of the net on a long ball to even the match at one. The goal marked Antonio's sixth of the season, setting a new single-season career high for the forward. Graduate student Maggie Wadsworth and sophomore Lyla Schick were credited with assists on the goal.

The teams entered halftime tied 1-1.

Charleston's defense held strong in the second half, including defending back-to-back William & Mary corner kicks in the 51st minute.

Chunn continued to hold the Tribe at bay, collecting her fifth save on a low shot off the cross in the 72nd minute. She added two more stops in the final ten minutes, punching away an attempt in the 81st minute before making her seventh and final save in the 86th minute to secure the draw.

Charleston will remain at home to take on Northeastern on Thursday, September 24 at Patriots Point. The match will serve as the Cougars' 'Pups on the Pitch' event, with fans invited to bring their dogs to the match.
