Men's Soccer Travels to #4 South Carolina Tuesday

COLUMBIA, S.C. – The College of Charleston men's soccer team will travel to #4 South Carolina on Tuesday, September 22 for non-conference action. Kick-off is set for 7:00 p.m. in Columbia.

QUICK KICKS — Charleston has started the 2026 season 4-1-2 and 1-1-1 in CAA play. The Cougars are coming off a 1-1 draw Saturday afternoon on the road at Elon in conference action.
Charleston is led by Keith Wiggans who is entering his seventh season at the helm of the Cougars. Wiggans' assistant coaches are Jet Terry (2nd season), Ernesto Aguinaga-Hernandez (2nd season) and Jake Douvas (1st season). Anissa Williams also enters her first season with the Cougars as the team's Head of Data Analytics.
LAST TIME OUT — The Cougars capitalized on their first corner of the game in the 8th minute to take the early lead. Hogan Walker sent the ball into the box where Henrik Boer headed it into the back of the net for his first of the year.
In the 60th minute, Elon was able to level the game at one, where the scoring would remain.
Marten Brink made four saves for the road Cougars.
LENERT IS LOVING IT  — Matt Lenert continues to have a dominant season, earning a spot on the TopDrawerSoccer.com's National Team of the Week for the second time this season following his performances in wins over Winthrop and USC Upstate. The senior scored three goals across two victories last week, earning his second CAA Player of the Week honor by helping the Cougars defeat Winthrop, 4-1, and USC Upstate, 2-1. The Falls Church, Va., native scored twice against the Eagles before netting his second game-winner of the season against the Spartans. He has a league-leading six goals (6th in NCAA) and 14 points through six matches.
SCOUTING THE GAMECOCKS — The Phoenix are undefeated on the season and are currently ranked #4 in the nation in the United Soccer Coaches poll.
MATCHUP HISTORY VS. GAMECOCKS — The Cougars are 7-11-2 all-time against the Gamecocks. The teams last met in Charleston on August 21, 2025 where South Carolina narrowly escaped with the 3-2 victory. The Cougars last defeated the Gamecocks in Columbia on August, 26, 2021 with a 1-0 overtime win.
THE WIGGANS FILE — Keith Wiggans enters his seventh season as head coach at his alma mater in 2026 after being promoted from associate head coach in December 2019. Wiggans spent 11 seasons serving under his college coach and the program's all-time winningest coach, Ralph Lundy, who retired in following the 2019 season. Wiggans was an assistant coach for nine years and associate head coach for two seasons before taking over the program. He was part of the staff which won the Southern Conference title and made its fifth appearance in the NCAA Tournament in 2010.
