Columbia, S.C. - The College of Charleston women's soccer team fell 6-1 to No. 20 South Carolina on Sunday, September 6 in Columbia, S.C.

South Carolina struck early, scoring in the seventh minute of play to take the early lead. Two minutes later, goalkeeper Ainsley Chunn earned her first save, punching the ball out of the box, but the Gamecocks capitalized on the deflection and doubled their advantage.

A low shot found the back of the net in the 14th minute, extending South Carolina's lead to 3-0.

The next two goals came in the 34th and 37th minutes, respectively, giving the Gamecocks a 5-0 advantage at halftime.

Graduate student Mia Vrataric entered in goal for Charleston in the second half and recorded her first save within the opening two minutes.

South Carolina added to its lead in the 49th minute following a corner kick. The Cougars blocked the first shot, but the Gamecocks collected the rebound and found the back of the net to make it 6-0.

Sophomore Ellie Stewart put Charleston on the board in the 62nd minute, driving past the defense before firing a shot past the goalkeeper to earn her first goal of the season. Stewart led the Cougars with two shots in the match.

Charleston will return to action on Thursday, September 10 against Coastal Carolina in Myrtle Beach, S.C. Kickoff is set for 6:00 pm and will be streamed on ESPN+. Live stats for the match can be found here.
