CHARLESTON, S.C. – The College of Charleston men's soccer team bounced back with a dominant 4-1 non-conference victory over Winthrop on Tuesday night at Patriots Point. The Cougars' four goals are the program's most scored since defeating Stony Brook 4-2 on September 14, 2024.

Matt Lenert started his blockbuster night with a header attempt in the 25^th minute that went just wide of the net before answering with his fourth goal of the season in the 39th minute. Henrik Boer set up Lenert's strike with a breakaway pass, allowing him to float the ball to the back left corner of the net from just past midfield.

Marten Brink made two saves in opening half to keep the Eagles off the board and help send the Cougars to the locker room up 1-0.

The Cougar offense came ready to play in the second half, starting with Paul Killeen finding Benmanzi Alibaruho in the box to fire past three Winthrop defenders for Charleston's second goal of the evening. The points were the first of both Killeen's and Alibaruho's careers.

Lenert added his second goal of the day on an unassisted 1-on-1 attempt in the 71^st minute for his fifth goal of the season.

Winthrop got on the board a minute later with a successful penalty kick conversion, but the Cougars did not allow the Eagles celebration to last long. Just four minutes after the penalty attempt, Javien Rambert sent a ball from the defensive third to the foot of Lennon Gill for Charleston's fourth and final goal of the evening.

Charleston narrowly outshot Winthrop 11-10, complete with a season-high four saves from Brink. Lenert continued his impressive senior campaign, ending with two goals on three shot attempts. Gill, Alibaruho, and Kira Fukuda all contributed two shots.

Charleston, now 3-1-1, will continue non-conference play at USC Upstate on Saturday, September 12. Action is set for 1:00 p.m. in Spartanburg.
