CHARLESTON, S.C. – The Charleston men's soccer team travels to Spartanburg, S.C. to face off against USC Upstate in non-conference action on Saturday, September 12. Kick-off is set for 1:00 p.m.

QUICK KICKS — Charleston has started the 2026 season 3-1-1 and 1-1 in CAA play. The Cougars are coming off a 4-1 non-conference victory against Winthrop on Tuesday, September 8. The Cougars' four goals are the program's most scored since defeating Stony Brook 4-2 on September 14, 2024.
Charleston is led by Keith Wiggans who is entering his seventh season at the helm of the Cougars. Wiggans' assistant coaches are Jet Terry (2nd season), Ernesto Aguinaga-Hernandez (2nd season) and Jake Douvas (1st season). Anissa Williams also enters her first season with the Cougars as the team's Head of Data Analytics.
LAST TIME OUT —The College of Charleston men's soccer team was victorious against Winthrop securing a 4-1 win at Patriots Point on Tuesday night. Matt Lenert started his blockbuster night with a header attempt in the 25th minute that went just wide of the net before answering with his fourth goal of the season in the 39th minute. Henrik Boer set up Lenert's strike with a breakaway pass, allowing him to float the ball to the back left corner of the net from just past midfield.
The Cougar offense came ready to play in the second half, starting with Paul Killeen finding Benmanzi Alibaruho in the box to fire past three Winthrop defenders for Charleston's second goal of the evening. The points were the first of both Killeen's and Alibaruho's careers. Just four minutes after the penalty attempt, Javien Rambert sent a ball from the defensive third to the foot of Lennon Gill for Charleston's fourth and final goal of the evening.
SCOUTING USC UPSTATE — USC Upstate enters Saturday's contest 2-4 and is coming off a 3-0 loss against Wake Forest on September 8. Their two wins this season were a 3-0 victory against ETSU on September 1 and a 3-0 win against West Florida on August 27.
MATCHUP HISTORY — Charleston is 3-1-1 all-time against USC Upstate. The contest will mark the sixth meeting in a row for the programs, with the Cougars walking away with the 1-0 victory last fall at Patriots Point.
THE WIGGANS FILE — Keith Wiggans enters his seventh season as head coach at his alma mater in 2026 after being promoted from associate head coach in December 2019.
Wiggans spent 11 seasons serving under his college coach and the program's all-time winningest coach, Ralph Lundy, who retired in following the 2019 season. Wiggans was an assistant coach for nine years and associate head coach for two seasons before taking over the program. He was part of the staff which won the Southern Conference title and made its fifth appearance in the NCAA Tournament in 2010.
