North Carolina netted the only goal of the first half with just under eight minutes left when Wes Shull took a breakaway and blasted one by Cougar goalkeeper Keith Wiggins. Two players went up for a loose ball and the ball ricocheted towards the Cougar goal setting up Shull for the cleanup shot into the right bottom corner of the goal. The Tar Heels out shot the Cougars in the first half seven to five.
The Cougars best chance to get on the scoreboard in the first half came just 24 seconds before the Tar Heel goal. Ricardo Diaz Grandos tossed one into the middle of the field but Troy Lesesne hit a header that sailed two yards high of the goal.
CofC got on the scoreboard just over a minute into the second half when Grandos put one in the bottom right corner of the net passed the UNC goalkeeper. Forty minutes went by until the Tar Heels put the game away with Shull's goal off an assist from Grant Porter.
Keith Wiggins played all 90 minutes in goal for CofC and recorded six saves. The Cougars have another exhibition game next Sunday against Clemson at 2:00 PM at Patriots Point. CofC gets the regular season underway on August 30 at Davidson at 4:00 PM.
