Cougars Take the 1-0 Shutout over the Bulldogs - CofCSports.com--Official Web site of College of Charleston Athletics

#articleRelated { display: none !important; } The 22nd-ranked Cougars only needed one goal to take the 1-0 win over the Alabama A&M Bulldogs in men's soccer action tonight at Patriots Point as part of the Aaron Olitsky Memorial Classic. In the first game of the evening, Coastal Carolina upset 25th-ranked South Carolina, 3-2.

Charleston improves their overall record to 12-5-1, while Alabama A&M falls to 3-10-2. The Cougars need just one more win to tie their win total from last season's 13-4-3 mark.

The College of Charleston started strong and had several opportunities to score but it was not until the 27:31 mark that Ben Hollingsworth took George Grygar's corner kick into the back of the net for the eventual game-winner. The Cougars out-shot the Bulldogs 9-3 in the first half with the Alabama A&M picking up four saves during that time.

The Bulldogs came out strong in the second half and even held the 4-3 edge in shots when the half ended. Alabama A&M rallied late in the game with several chances and even had a last second shot sail over the cross bar.
For the game, Charleston came away with the 12-7 shot advantage and 5-2 corner kick edge. Alabama A&M led in saves 5-2.

Darren Toby led the Cougars with five shots, while Eugene Sepuya and Kevon Elliot let the Bulldogs with two shots each.

In the first game of the night, Coastal Carolina scored with just under a minute to play to give the Chanticleers the 3-2 win over the 25th-ranked USC Gamecocks.

Coastal Carolina went up 2-0 early with scores by Patrick Robertson (10:56) and Jordie Hughes (38:36) but the Gamecocks came back with goals by Greg Reece (41:47) and Sabastian Lindholm (71:51). The game looked as though it would go into overtime but Boyzzz Khumalo took advantage when the USC goalkeeper ventured too far out of the box and sailed the ball into the back of the net for the game-winner at 89:11.

Both teams take the field again Sunday Nov. 7th as part of the Aaron Olitsky Memorial Classic. Charleston takes on Coastal Carolina at 12:00 PM, while Alabama A&M takes on South Carolina at 2:30 PM.
