The Charlotte 49ers women's tennis team captured four of the six singles matches en route to a 4-3 win over College of Charleston in its home opener.
College of Charleston won two of the three doubles matches to claim the doubles point. In number one doubles, Charlotte's Laura Swain and Ashleigh Murray defeated College of Charleston's Gabriela Moreira and Maxine Capewell, 8-0. In number two doubles, College of Charleston's Lauren Stewart and Rachel Magory defeated Charlotte's Kathy Robey and Ofra Friedman, 9-7. In number three doubles, College of Charleston's Jenna Marks and Andrea Niculescu defeated Charlotte's Marilyn Clark and Jennifer Hatch, 8-6.
The 49ers won four of the six singles matches as they rallied to win the match. In number one singles, Charlotte's Swain defeated College of Charleston's Magory, 6-4, 7-6. In number two singles, College of Charleston's Moreira defeated Charlotte's Murray, 6-2, 6-1. In number three singles, Charlotte's Robey defeated College of Charleston's Niculescu, 6-2, 6-1. In number four singles, Charlotte's Ali Piacente defeated College of Charleston's Capewell, 6-4, 6-2. In number five singles, Charlotte's Clark defeated College of Charleston's Stewart, 3-6, 6-4, 6-3. In number six singles, College of Charleston's Marks defeated Charlotte's Hatch, 6-3, 6-0.
With the win, the 49ers improved to 2-4 on the season, while the Cougars fall to 3-4.
